My journey began long before I ever picked up a camera. I grew up on a farm in the Steytlerville district, where the wide-open spaces of the Karoo shaped who I am. While my mom wished I’d fall in love with cooking, I would have much rather been out in the veld with my dad — breathing in the dust, the wind, and the wonder of the outdoors.
From the time I was a little girl, horses completely captured my heart. We had a horse on the farm named Madison, and to this day, I can still remember the smell of him, the feel of his coat, and how deeply in love I was with him. Every chance I had to sit on his back felt like the greatest gift.
My best friend, Izelle, shared my passion. She had a beautiful horse named Lord, and she so kindly let me ride him. I would cycle 5 km just to spend time with them — to be near Lord, to feel that magical connection, and to soak up every precious moment. Those days shaped my love for horses and gave me memories I treasure still.
When my dad saw how much horses meant to me, that’s when our shared journey truly began. Once he bought into the dream, he made all my wishes come true. He let me do it all — trusting me, encouraging me, and offering advice along the way. His support allowed me to build my own bond with the horses, and those memories are ones I will always cherish.
Though my dad once tried to steer me towards other passions — even offering me any motorcycle I wanted instead of a horse — my heart had already chosen its path. Not long after, he gave me the greatest gift: my first horse, Star King. And with that, my story truly began.
Photography came into my life thanks to Uncle Jay — Izelle’s dad and our neighbour — who was a passionate photographer in his spare time. I would spend hours in his darkroom, completely mesmerized by the magic he created.
Uncle Jay became my mentor, my fiercest critic, and my greatest supporter. He taught me to look deeper, to strip away distractions, and to capture the truth in every frame. Even today, I look at my photos and ask myself, What would Uncle Jay say? — and that thought keeps me striving for better, for more, for images that truly tell a story.
Today, I am fortunate to work as a traveling photographer, exploring the landscapes that inspire me — from the Karoo’s golden sunsets to Gauteng’s vibrant stables. My mission is to capture the powerful, quiet bond between horse and human.
As an equine photographer, I create Equine Portraits that are more than just photos — they are stories, emotions, and moments that will last a lifetime. The soft nuzzle of a horse, the gentle trust in their eyes, the strength in every stride — these are the moments that fill my heart and my lens.
Thank you for being here, and for trusting me to tell your story — a story of love, connection, and the timeless beauty of horses.
