Honest answers to the questions people ask me most often before booking a family, couple or portrait session along the Eastern Cape coast. What a session costs, what to ask any photographer you are considering, and who decides where your photographs may appear. If what you need is not here, please ask me.
How much should family photos cost?
A family photography session with Adri Krige Photography costs R2 500. That covers 60 minutes, one location, one outfit and 25 high-resolution images. Couple and portrait sessions are R1 750 each. These are my session fees for 2026 and 2027 along the Eastern Cape coast.
Pricing can feel confusing when you are comparing photographers, so let me be open about what you are paying for.
A session fee covers far more than the hour we spend together. It includes planning the location around the light, tide and wind, travelling to meet you, carefully selecting and editing every image, and the equipment, backups and insurance that make the work possible. Most photographers spend several hours behind the scenes for every hour in front of you.
- Family session — R2 500. 60 minutes, one location, one outfit, 25 high-resolution images.
- Couple session — R1 750. 45 minutes, one location, one outfit, 20 high-resolution images.
- Portrait session — R1 750. 60 minutes, one location, one outfit, 15 high-resolution images.
A preview reaches you on WhatsApp, and your finished high-resolution photographs are delivered by Google Drive within seven days.
Because I live in St Francis Bay, there is no travel fee for sessions in St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Oyster Bay or the Tsitsikamma. Further afield, travel is charged at R6.50 per kilometre and discussed openly before you commit to anything. Horse photography is priced separately, as those sessions work differently.
If a package does not quite fit your family, please ask. I would far rather find something that works for you than have you walk away thinking it was not possible.
What questions should I ask before hiring a photographer?
Ask to see a full gallery rather than only the highlights, ask whether they have photographed in your area and in that light, and ask about their editing style, delivery time, exactly what is included, what costs extra, backup equipment and image backups, whether you will receive a written agreement, and how they help people who feel awkward in front of a camera.
Choosing a photographer is a personal decision, and you deserve to feel settled about it before you book. A few things worth asking anyone you are considering:
- May I see a full gallery, not only the highlights? Anyone can show you ten beautiful images. A complete gallery shows consistency.
- Have you photographed in this area, in this light? Ask to see work made where you will be standing.
- What is your editing style, and how long until I receive my photographs?
- What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
- Do you carry backup equipment, and how are my images backed up afterwards?
- Will I receive a written agreement?
- How do you help people who feel awkward in front of a camera?
That last one matters more than most people expect. Technical skill is only half of it. The rest is whether you feel safe and unhurried, because that is what shows up in the photographs.
For my own part: I carry backup equipment and multiple memory cards to every session, and your images are backed up as soon as I am home. Sessions are gently guided. You do not need to know how to pose, and children do not need to sit still.
If you would like to meet for coffee before your session, I would love that. It tells me more about your family than any questionnaire, and it makes the day itself feel far more relaxed.
Can a photographer use my photos for marketing without permission?
Not automatically. Under South African law the photographer generally holds the copyright in the images, but holding copyright does not give a photographer the right to publish photographs of you or your children. Your privacy and personal information are protected separately under POPIA, and at Adri Krige Photography your permission is asked for before any image is shared.
This is a fair question, and I am always glad when someone asks it.
Before any image appears on my website or social media, I ask you. You are free to say no, and it changes nothing about your session, your photographs or your fee. Some families are happy for their images to be shared, others prefer complete privacy, and both are entirely welcome here.
The same applies to children. If you would rather no photographs of your children appear publicly, please tell me and that is simply how it will be.
And if you ever change your mind afterwards, whether that is next month or in three years, ask me to take an image down and I will.
