Honest Photographs of the Connections That Matter
Some photographs record how a moment looked. The most meaningful ones bring you back to how it felt. My work centres on the relationships people value most: the bond between a horse and owner, the character of a much-loved horse, the energy of a family and the quiet connection between two people.
As a St Francis Bay photographer, I photograph families and couples throughout Cape St Francis, Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Oyster Bay and Tsitsikamma. For equine photography, I travel throughout the Eastern Cape and across South Africa.

Fine-Art Equine Photography
Every horse has a presence of their own—the familiar expression, the way they carry themselves and the small details their person would recognise anywhere.
Sessions may focus on the horse alone, the relationship between horse and owner, or beautifully composed horse-and-rider portraits. I travel to private yards, farms and equestrian venues throughout South Africa. Equine work is the part of my year that takes me furthest from home, so while I am a St Francis Bay photographer by address, horses are why I keep packing the car.

Understanding Horses Changes the Experience
A horse may be alert, playful, distracted or simply uninterested in the plan we had in mind. I do not see this as the session going wrong. It is part of photographing an animal with a personality and responses of their own.
I allow time for horses to settle and work with their natural behaviour rather than forcing every moment. This creates photographs that feel composed without losing the character of the horse in front of me.

Eastern Cape coastline
Family and Couple Photography by the Sea
The beaches around St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Jeffreys Bay and Tsitsikamma offer open space, natural movement and beautiful coastal light.
As a St Francis Bay photographer I plan each session around the weather, the tide and the ages of the people being photographed. You do not need to know how to pose; I provide gentle guidance while leaving room for genuine connection. An outdoor family photography session along the beach or the dune paths is what most families ask for here, and this coastline suits it far better than any studio would.
December and Easter
Booking a St Francis Bay photographer for the holidays
Every December and Easter this coast fills with families who have not all been in one place for a year. Grandparents arrive, cousins meet the new baby, and everyone is properly relaxed for the first time in months.
It is the easiest week of the year to take an honest photograph, and the one most people wish afterwards that they had booked.
Holiday sessions usually run about an hour, on the beach or along the dune paths, late in the afternoon when the light softens. Nobody needs to dress alike or know how to pose.
We walk, the children run ahead, and I photograph what actually happens.
Dates go early. December and the Easter week are usually booked weeks in advance.
If you already know when you will be here, it is worth sending me a message now, even if the details are still loose.
If you are staying in Jeffreys Bay, Cape St Francis, Oyster Bay or the Tsitsikamma, I photograph there too. Tell me where you are based and we will find somewhere lovely nearby.
Just around the corner
Photographer in Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay

Cape St Francis
Cape St Francis is only a few minutes from St Francis Bay, yet it feels like a different world. There is the Seal Point lighthouse, the rocks where the waves break, and low fynbos that turns gold in the evening. It is a lovely setting for families who want something a little wilder than the main beach, and for couples who love the drama of the sea.
Many of my Cape St Francis sessions begin near Seal Point lighthouse and wander down to the sand as the sun drops.

Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay is quiet, open and wide. The dunes roll for kilometres, and on most evenings you will have the beach almost to yourselves. It is perfect for little ones who need space to run, and for anyone who feels shy in front of a camera.
If you are staying on a farm or in a holiday house near Oyster Bay or Humansdorp, I will gladly come to you.

A Relaxed and Personal Approach
I am Adri Krige, a St Francis Bay photographer. My approach is grounded in patience, careful observation and respect for the people and animals in front of my camera.
I understand that horses are unpredictable, children need room to be themselves and many adults feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. Sessions are unhurried, gently guided and designed to feel like an experience rather than a performance.

Helpful information
Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing a St Francis Bay photographer who actually lives here isn’t only about convenience. It’s about someone who knows where the light falls at five in the afternoon, which beach the tide has taken back, and how the wind behaves off the Kromme. I’ve photographed this village in every season, and that knowledge quietly shapes every session I shoot.
Which photography services do you offer?
I offer fine-art horse portraits, horse-and-owner and horse-and-rider photography, relaxed family photoshoots and natural couple photography.
Where are photography sessions available?
Family and couple sessions are available in St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Oyster Bay and Tsitsikamma. Equine sessions are available throughout the Eastern Cape and across South Africa.
Do we need to know how to pose?
No. I provide gentle guidance and use movement and natural interaction so the photographs feel relaxed rather than overly posed.
How do we enquire?
Send a WhatsApp message with the type of session, your preferred location and possible dates. I will reply with availability and the information needed to plan your session.
Why should I book a St Francis Bay photographer rather than one travelling in?
A local photographer arrives already knowing the place. There’s no travel fee added to your quote, no guessing about parking or access, and no risk of a late arrival after a long drive. I live here, so I can scout a location the week before, check the tide and the wind, and adjust the plan the morning of your shoot if the weather turns. That flexibility is difficult to offer from three hours away.
Does booking a local photographer save me money?
Usually, yes. Photographers travelling in generally add travel time, fuel and sometimes accommodation to their fee, and those costs sit on your invoice. Because I’m based in St Francis Bay, that line item simply isn’t there. What you’re paying for is the photography itself — the session, the care taken in editing, and the images you’ll keep.
Do you know the best photo locations in St Francis Bay?
I do, and more importantly I know when each one works. The canals, the white-and-black thatched homes, the dunes, the river mouth and the beaches at Cape St Francis all photograph beautifully — but each has its own hour. Some locations glow at sunrise and fall flat by afternoon. I’ll suggest spots that suit your family, your outfits and the time of day we’re shooting, rather than working from a list I found online.
What happens if the weather changes on the day?
St Francis weather can shift quickly, and that’s exactly where being local helps. I watch the forecast in the days leading up to your session, and if conditions look poor I’ll contact you early to move things around. Rescheduling is far simpler for me than for someone who has already booked travel and accommodation, so you’re not pressured to shoot in wind or heavy cloud just because the trip has been paid for.
Can we meet before the shoot?
Absolutely, and I’d love to. A coffee beforehand tells me more about your family than any questionnaire does — how your children respond to a stranger, what you’re hoping for, what makes you self-conscious in front of a camera. Being nearby means that meeting is easy to arrange, and it makes the shoot itself feel far more relaxed for everyone.
Are you available for short-notice bookings?
Often, yes. Because I’m not coordinating travel, I can sometimes take a session with only a few days’ notice, or shift a shoot forward by an hour to catch better light. If you’ve had a plan fall through or you’re visiting St Francis Bay and want photographs while you’re here, please do ask — even if it feels last minute.
How far in advance should I book?
Honestly, it depends far more on my diary than on how much notice you give me. If I’m at home and the day is open, twenty-four hours is perfectly workable — I don’t need weeks of preparation to shoot well, and some of my favourite sessions have come together at short notice when the light looked promising and someone simply asked.
What complicates it is that I travel a fair amount for work. There are stretches where I’m away for days at a time, and no amount of goodwill can put me in two places at once. So the further ahead you can book, the more certain I can be of holding your date for you.
As a rough guide: for weddings, several months is wise, particularly over December and the Easter holidays when St Francis Bay is full. For family sessions, portraits and horse shoots, a week or two is usually comfortable, and a day or two is often still possible.
But please don’t talk yourself out of enquiring because it feels too soon or too late. Send the message. If I’m free, I’ll tell you, and if I’m not, I’ll say so kindly and we’ll look at another date.
What if you are already booked on my date?
My diary fills over December and the Easter week, and I would far rather you had beautiful photographs than none at all. If I can’t take your date, Caroline Jones Photography and Segerius Bruce Photography in Jeffreys Bay both photograph along this coast, and I am glad to point you their way.
Isn’t a photographer from a bigger city more experienced?
Experience matters, but so does familiarity with the place you’re standing in. A photographer who has shot this coastline for years knows how the light behaves against the dunes and where the shadows go long. I’d encourage you to look at any photographer’s portfolio and choose the work that moves you — but don’t assume distance equals skill. Ask to see images made here, in this light.
Do you travel outside St Francis Bay?
I do. While St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis and Humansdorp are home, I’m glad to travel for weddings and sessions further afield, with travel costs discussed openly upfront. If you’re unsure whether your location is workable, please just ask and we’ll talk it through.
What if something goes wrong on the day?
I carry backup equipment and multiple memory cards to every session, and I back up your images as soon as I’m home. Being local also means that if a genuine emergency ever arose, I’m nearby and able to respond — not stranded on the N2. Your photographs matter to me, and I take that responsibility seriously.
Do you photograph horses as well as families?
Yes, and it’s some of the work I’m most fond of. Horses ask something different of a photographer. You can’t direct them, you can’t rush them, and you certainly can’t repeat a moment on request — so the whole session slows down and becomes a matter of watching and waiting. That patience is often what produces the quietest, most honest images of the day.
I’m comfortable working around horses and mindful of the safety that comes with it. I’ll keep my distance where it matters, move calmly, and take my cues from you and your horse rather than pushing for a shot that makes an animal uneasy.
I’m also very happy to combine the two. A family portrait session that includes your horse, a rider’s portraits alongside images with parents and siblings, or a set of photographs marking a partnership you’ve had for years — all of it works beautifully, and it’s usually best done in one session so the light stays consistent.
If you’d like horses included, please mention it when you enquire. It changes how we plan the timing and the location, and it helps to know in advance whether we’ll need someone on hand to hold or handle. A little preparation on the day — a groomed coat, clean tack, hair tidied — goes a long way in the final images.
How do I book you as my St Francis Bay photographer?
Send me a message through the contact page with your date, rough location and what kind of session you have in mind. I’ll come back to you with availability and pricing, and we can arrange a chat if you’d like one. There’s no pressure at any point — I’d far rather we’re a good fit for one another than simply fill a diary slot.
